Established in 1963, De Ateliers is an Amsterdam post-graduation institute for budding international talent. Past students include, Joep van Lieshout, Aernout Mik and Rob Birza. Prominent artists (these days including Marlene Dumas, Steve McQueen, Carlson Hatton) make studio visits every Tuesday. This publication traces the Tuesday experiences; heated debates, past tutors, students, exhibitions and personal recollections. Printed on fine mat paper; a strip of images runs throughout the book in the middle of every page. Essays and recollections are accompanied by a full list of students, a foreword by the director Dominic van den Boogerd and an elaborate index.
