Perform a Lecture
Six events held at different places in Berlin in 2010 provided the occasion for this weirdly charming publication, that aims at shedding light on a peculiar subgenre of Performance – the Lecture Performance. This genre has grown in relevance over the past years, and enjoyed centre stage (quite literally) in the work of many artists. “Lecture Performance is neither mimicry nor pure translation of the academic method. In contrast, it creates an interlinear relation between the spoken word and the image, rather than confronting them on clearly separated levels”. And two lines below, accentuated by highlighted text, it gets better: “(…) Lecture Performance opens up a rift, in which the artist creates a display of knowledge emerging out of the space between word and image”. With contributions by Ulf Aminde, Eric de Bryn, Helmut Draxler, Felix Ensslin, Christoph Gurk, Dorothea von Hantelmann, Clemens Krümmel, Solvej Helweg Ovesen, Dieter Roelstraete.
