From April 2013 to October 2017, composer Frederic Acquaviva and singer Lore Lixenberg created La Plaque Tournante as a multi-media, multi-disciplinary, non-commercial artist space.
The space is located in a former doctor’s surgery in the centre of Neukolln and thus establishes a connection between art and medicine. The interior of the doctor’s surgery was consciously preserved in order to examine how exhibitions and events respond to this environment. Entering the space, visitors will not only encounter intact medical furniture but also high quality technical equipment that offer exhibiting artists a unique experience.

La Plaque Tournante regularly organises exhibitions displaying the experimental and avant garde art practice by artists from the 20th century and today. During these exhibitions they are hoping to create an informal and welcoming atmosphere, thus blurring the boundary between art and life.
Other events feature international and Berlin-based musicians, composers and sound artists, and either link to a present exhibition or simply showcase the craft of these artists.

Furthermore La Plaque Tournante published a series of artist books featuring the work of more unknown artists such as the New York Situationist ‘Bill not Bored’, feminist Plastic ArtBru artist Maria Faustino, and the great luminaries, such as Pauline Oliveros, Isou and Phill Niblick.
The yearly artist magazine « CRU » (CRU1 for 2013/14 and CRU2 for 2015/16) reflects on the developments of La Plaque Tournante.

The events and concerts outside the exhibitions have really shown both Lixenberg’s and Acquaviva’s strong interest in sound. WE were always on the look out for sound artists and musicians doing original and daring things with sound and have sought to give them a platform to present their work as well as producing an aesthetically cohesive programme of public events. La Plaque Tournante continues its activities as a conceptual Space Without A Space.
