Juan Fontanive calls them 'paper films', electronic flipbooks which explore the formats, mechanisms and sonics of early film, particularly experimental and stop-frame animation. In that netherworld between analogue and digital Fontanive's work relies on our understanding of and belief in these visual storybook formats. Fishes live in motorised canisters, hummingbirds attack berrys on a tree, the Tour de France comes to a crashing halt as the artist uses any revolving support to run his hand drawn cells.
