Na Grane (On the Border)
At the heart of Eléonore de Montesquiou’s book Na Grane is an unlikely and – in Western Europe at least – largely unknown location at the outer reaches of the European Union. Interviews undertaken over several years with locals and friends delicately unravel the history and contemporary situation of two cities – Ivangorod and Narva – which face each other on either side of a river forming the border between Russia and Estonia. The texts, interviews and accompanying photographs of scenes from everyday life on both sides of the border constitute an important cultural document of the post- communist era.
